German grade calculator
Convert your grade to the German scale (1.0 best, 4.0 pass) with the Modified Bavarian Formula, the method most German universities and uni-assist use.
Formula: 1 + 3 × (best − yours) ÷ (best − minimum pass). Your university may use its own conversion, so check its admission page. Results are an estimate.
How the German grading system works
Germany grades from 1.0 (very good) to 4.0 (sufficient). Anything worse than 4.0 is a fail. Lower is better, which surprises many international students.
Which grade do you need?
Many master programmes ask for 2.5 or better, and competitive programmes or scholarships often expect 2.0 or better. Always check the admission page of your university, because some apply their own conversion.
