German Campus is a free, practical guide for international students, job seekers and expats who want to study, work and build a life in Germany. We explain German bureaucracy, visas, university admissions and everyday life in plain language.
Who is behind German Campus

German Campus was founded by Kumar Ashish, who has lived in Germany for around ten years and studies Engineering Physics at Carl von Ossietzky Universität Oldenburg.
From 2019 to 2025 he served as National Chairman of the Bundesverband ausländischer Studierender (BAS), the federal association representing international students in Germany, and he continues in an advisory role on its National Board. He also serves as a student representative on the Executive Board of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
Over the years he has helped hundreds of students with visa applications, residence permits, Ausbildung applications and settling in. German Campus turns that first-hand experience into step-by-step guides.

Why you can rely on our guides
As BAS chairman, Kumar worked on the rules that shape international students’ lives in Germany, such as working-hour limits, pandemic support and energy-cost relief for students. That experience with authorities, universities and students’ real problems is the basis for every German Campus guide. Each article is overseen by Kumar and checked against official sources, as described in our editorial policy.
Independence
German Campus is a personal, independent project. It is not run by, affiliated with or endorsed by BAS, the DAAD, the University of Oldenburg or any government body, and the content on this site does not represent their positions.
